Our Big Give Green Match Fund appeal was a huge success raising an impressive £157,154 for the new lock 24 and advance the restoration of the Lichfield Canal while supporting biodiversity and climate change.
Through the generosity of donors and the Big Give’s matched funding initiative, we raised:
- £50,000 in pledges
- £78,577 in online donations
- £28,577 from Big Give champion funders the Reed Foundation
Christine Howles, communications and marketing trustee said:
“This extraordinary achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of our members and the wider community to see the Lichfield Canal completed and in water. We received donations from all over the country and a few from overseas too.
While we didn’t quite reach our ambitious target of £180,000, we are absolutely thrilled by the incredible support and generosity shown. We are extremely grateful for everyone who contributed to this appeal.”
The designs for the lock are currently being drawn up and work is due to start early in 2026, with the aim of completing the Gallows Reach section by the end of 2026. You can see more details on the Gallows Reach project page.
