The Brownhills Canal Festival is held on the third weekend of August each year, on the Wyrley and Essington Canal at Silver Street. The festival has floating traders, historic narrowboats, land traders and lots more.

The festival is kindly hosted by the Canal & River Trust, who are the landowners, while the event is organised by Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust.

Here’s the preliminary list of the attractions for this year:

Floating traders

  • Nb Wakamatandoto: Eco-friendly cleaning products and handcrafted items.
  • Over The Yarnarm: Yarn-knitted and crochet items, yarncraft and sewing supplies, fibre arts gifts and kits.
  • Star Crafts: Embroidered gifts and crafts, retro pic n mix, cold drinks and ice lollies, made on their historic butty Nebulae.
  • Tikova Crafts: Handmade canal-inspired gifts, micro crochet jewellery and other handmade items.
  • Vintage & Modern: An eclectic range of antique and vintage collectables along with hand crafted items
  • Watery Art and Crafts: Handcrafted clay models tree fairy houses jewelry and more.
  • Winty Crafts: Bespoke handcrafted crystal jewellery and resin shapes.

Floating foodie traders

  • Curry Cruiser: Indian street food and meals.
  • Lola the Cafe Boat: A floating takeaway cafe boat, delivering delicious pizzas, taco’s and much more.
  • Three Sheep Cheese Boat: Cheese, chutney, crackers and a sparkling personality
  • Star Crafts: Retro pic n mix, cold drinks and ice lollies, plus embroidered gifts and crafts, made on their historic butty Nebulae.
  • Wildside Preserves: Delicious hand made preserves, many including ingredients foraged from the towpath.

  • Aunty Lane’s Rocky Road: Don’t assume you know Rocky Road, until you’ve tried Aunty Lanes Rocky Road!
  • Fairy Good Cakes: Come find the little pink van stocked to the max with lots of yummy treats!

Charities and other organisations

  • Lichfield & Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust: The reason we are all here! Do come and say hello to the team.
  • Animal Rescue Volunteers: A dedicated group of animal lovers, raising money for rescued small animals in need.
  • Canal and River Trust: The UK’s largest canal charity, looking after 2,000 miles of canals and rivers across England and Wales.
  • Cats Protection (Walsall Borough branch): Passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens in Walsall Borough, working to find loving new homes for local cats, offering support with neutering, and lost and found cats.
  • Friends of Raymond: A volunteer-led charity dedicated to preserving and showcasing two historic narrowboats: Raymond and Nutfield.
  • The Thomas Project: To raise funds to continue supporting vulnerable families in the area (Saturday only).

Other attractions

  • Staffordshire Portable Amateur Radio Club: The group will be contacting people from across the world, come and find out who they speak to.
  • Ebony the Shire Horse: Ebony will be there for a meet and greet, bring her some carrots!


Free bus service

Chasewater Railway is kindly providing a free circular bus service between Brownhills and Chasewater Country Park (Brownhills West Station) with buses provided by Aldridge Transport Museum.

Buses leave from Chasewater Railway (Brownhills West) at 11:05, 12:20, 13:55, 15:25, 17:05 (see full timetable).

Parking at Chasewater is approximately £1.20 for up to two hours or £3.50 all day (see more).
