We can offer opportunities for your staff to spend a day out of the office, while helping us to restore the canals and give something back to the community, making a real impact.
You could be:
- Building towpaths
- Preparing for, and laying, concrete
- Reclaiming original bricks and materials for reuse
- Clearing vegetation
- Planting hedging or trees (seasonal)
A typical corporate volunteer day on the Heritage Towpath Trail could lay between 25 and 35 metres of towpath. The material cost to the Trust for this day of volunteering is around £500, excluding the cost of any plant we may use. We don’t make a charge for corporate volunteering days, but any donation would be appreciated.
We can run team days throughout the year at several locations near Lichfield, for groups of up to 15 people. (If your team is bigger than 15 we can discuss options with you.)
We all left feeling very proud as JLR employees that did an amazing job towards a worthy cause. With the feedback from the team we would like to return in the future for another Community Project Day at the Canal and see the progress other companies including JLR Departments have made.”

“We set ourselves a challenging task, and in order to complete it, colleagues based in different offices had to come together for a day and use skills not often seen in our day jobs.”

“A total of 10 of us took part and I learned how much the canal meant to people around the office as they told me personal stories of their families involvement in the canal restoration. A further 3 people provided breakfast, tea, coffee and cake to power us on to lay 45m of towpath in blazing sunshine. We even got to try out the “whacker” machine. It has given us all tremendous pleasure to work together to leave a lasting legacy for the local community.”
