Our Big Give Christmas Challenge in 2023 raised money to replace our aging diggers.
The appeal was to replace our 3-tonne excavator, which had served us well for many years, but was getting beyond its serviceable life and was very costly to keep replacing increasingly scarce parts. We also needed a 5-tonne excavator for bigger projects. So we were aiming to raise money towards the cost of one or both of these machines.
Thanks to everyone who pledged and donated, we raised a total of £32k (including Gift Aid).
It took some time to find a suitable replacement, but we now have one of the replacement diggers and it’s been in action at Tamworth Road. It’s a Hitachi 3-ton digger, which is compact and very manoeuvrable. It has been brought up to standard with some fresh fittings and it has a selection of three buckets in different sizes, which is very handy for the kind of work that we’re doing. Many thanks to Gavin Wickham and the Briggs Equipment Ltd team for sourcing it for us (and donating to the appeal).
We’re still hunting for a suitable second one. It is taking a long time but we want to make sure that we get the right model for what we need, in the right condition and at the right price. We’ll update you again when we have more news.
