The Biffa Award board recently visited Darnford Moors Ecology Park, a project partly funded by Biffa Award through the Partnership Grant Scheme, to see firsthand the impact of their support on the local environment.
During their visit, the board had the opportunity to see how the canal has flourished since it was completed and meet with some of our trustees, who were instrumental in the success of the funding bid.
The Darnford Moors Ecology Park project, which received £300,000 in funding from the Biffa Award, saw the historic dry canal channel restored and put back into water, providing habitats for wildlife. The project has transformed the area into a thriving habitat for local wildlife and a beautiful community space.
Our trustees warmly welcomed the Biffa Award board, expressing their gratitude for the funding that has made the project possible.
Bob Williams, LHCRT Finance and Funding Trustee, said:
“This is a magic moment for us because we are pleased to find with us today the people have made this all happen. The Board of Biffa Award, has come to see what the funding was spent on. So they have come here today to look at the whole thing for themselves and seem to be delighted with the outcome, as we all are. Thank you.”
Stewart Goshawk, Chair of the BIFFA Board, said:
I’m the chair of the BIFFA Board scheme and we’re one of the principal funders of the canal restoration here and it’s fantastic. We’ve had the rest of the board and some of our grants team out here this afternoon. It’s fantastic to see the works that have been achieved and the tremendous volunteer effort, which is always a great bonus for any project that we get involved in. I was here a number of months ago at the official opening and it’s fantastic to see the difference now. Just let nature take its course and you’ll be amazed at what happens.”
During the visit, the BIFFA Board toured the ecology park, observing the progress made and the positive impact on the local ecosystem. The visit concluded with a discussion about future plans for the park and the ongoing restoration work.
The visit by the Biffa Award board was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the LHCRT and Biffa Award in preserving and enhancing the natural environment for future generations.
