We have co‑opted Peter Hale to the Board as Volunteer Resources Trustee, ahead of his formal election at the AGM in June.
Peter has been passionate about the UK’s waterways since childhood and has a long‑standing connection with the Trust, having briefly volunteered in the late 1970s. He now returns with extensive experience from both the charitable and engineering sectors.
His experience includes twelve years with the Pride of Sandwell Charitable Trust, where he served as Chair of the Management Committee, and a 50‑year career as a Chartered Engineer in the railway industry. His work spanned asset maintenance, infrastructure change engineering and project management, with a strong focus on safety, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of complex projects to time and budget.
Peter’s combined experience in volunteer leadership, safety management, training, and large‑scale project delivery makes him exceptionally well‑placed to support LHCRT’s expanding volunteer base. His appointment reflects the Trust’s commitment to nurturing a safe, inclusive and well‑supported environment for everyone involved in restoring the canals.
Speaking about his appointment, Peter Hale said:
“I’m delighted to be able to support the Trust again after so many years. LHCRT’s vision has stayed with me since my youth, and I’m looking forward to helping our volunteers feel confident, supported and valued as we continue this remarkable restoration.”
Carole, Chair of LHCRT, said:
“Peter brings a great blend of practical experience, governance knowledge and genuine passion for our waterways. His insight into volunteer development and safety will be invaluable as our teams grow. We’re delighted to have him on board.”
Peter will stand for formal election by members at the LHCRT AGM in June.
