We held our 33rd Annual General Meeting on 9 June 2023, both in-person and live on YouTube, and were very pleased to welcome some very special guests. As a last minute change to his schedule, our vice president, Sir David Suchet was able to join us, with Lady Sheila, fresh from their narrow boat.
Achievements
Our AGM gives us, and our members, an opportunity to take stock of our achievements over the last year.
Members heard about the launch of our new strategy and some hugely successful funding bids, along with the accomplishments of our hard working, wonderful volunteers restoring the canal, maintaining the canal route, improving biodiversity, fundraising and many other tasks.

Elections
Each year, a third of our trustees retire in rotation, and therefore the following trustees offered their resignation; Christine Bull, Jeff March and Christine Howles. All were willing to stand for another term, and were duly elected.
Caroline Habart was also formally elected to the board, having been co-opted in the last few months, and Ivor Caplan was confirmed as IWA nominee.

The AGM ended with a discussion about membership subscriptions and then a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for our President, Eric Wood, whose birthday was the following day. After a break for refreshments, the audience was treated to a talk by guest speaker, Nick Mott from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on ‘Restoring the River Trent’.
