Volunteers’ Week is here, and we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible people who make our restoration possible. Every metre of rebuilt canal, every event, every donation counted, every habitat created and protected – it all starts with volunteers.
In our 2025 financial year, more than 120 LHCRT volunteers regularly supported the Trust across construction, green and grounds, events, fundraising, administration, and behind‑the‑scenes roles. Alongside them, 237 corporate volunteers joined us for hands‑on team days, helping us tackle major tasks and accelerate progress on site.
Together, volunteers contributed an extraordinary 24,227 hours. When converted to a standard economic value, this equates to £1 million of donated time – a remarkable contribution that reflects the scale of support behind the restoration.
From laying bricks and planting hedges to running events, managing membership, writing grant and planning applications, every volunteer plays a vital part in our success. Their work strengthens wildlife habitats, connects communities, preserves heritage, and brings us closer to reconnecting the canal to the national network.
This week, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who gives their time to LHCRT. Your dedication, resilience, and passion are the driving force behind the restoration. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
