The Beacon Awards now in their third year, honour the people and organisations who bring energy, pride, and inspiration to our district. With nominations at an all‑time high, this recognition is a powerful reflection of the dedication and impact of our volunteers, trustees, and supporters.
From restoring infrastructure and enhancing biodiversity to building connections and promoting inclusion, LHCRT’s work is rooted in community spirit and environmental stewardship. Winning this award is a tribute to everyone who has contributed to our journey.
The announcement was made at the awards ceremony on Thursday 27 November at the National Memorial Arboretum, where we celebrated alongside other outstanding changemakers.
We’re thrilled to have our efforts recognised and look forward to continuing to champion local pride and positive change across the region—a true testament to the dedication of our volunteers.

LHCRT, run entirely by volunteers, is delivering one of the region’s most ambitious civil engineering and heritage projects — restoring the Lichfield Canal as a traffic‑free, blue‑green corridor that enhances biodiversity, wellbeing, and connectivity. Careful use of funding, innovative fundraising, and strong community partnerships have enabled over 40% of the canal to be completed or under construction, with major milestones such as the M6Toll aqueduct and Darnford Moors Ecology Park already achieved. With more than 17,500 volunteer hours in 2024, £150k raised in the 2025 Big Give appeal, and a growing membership base, LHCRT demonstrates how local passion and determination can deliver lasting social, environmental, and economic impact.
