We are looking for a Construction & Operations (C&O) Trustee to help lead the restoration of our historic canal route.
This is a key leadership role for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, planning, and working with people. You don’t need formal qualifications — just the right experience, good judgement, and a commitment to safe, high‑quality work.
You’ll be joining a supportive board of trustees who care deeply about legacy, landscape, and local impact — and you’ll have plenty of help along the way.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help shape and oversee the Trust’s construction and operational work, turning plans into safe, practical activity on the ground.
You’ll work closely with our volunteer teams and volunteer construction manager/s to keep projects well‑organised, resourced and moving forward.
You’ll also build strong relationships with partners and the public, offering clear advice and resolving issues as they arise.
Time commitment
We’re flexible — most trustees give a few hours a week, including monthly board meetings. You might spend a little more time when reviewing plans or supporting specific projects, but we’ll work around your availability.

- Energy, enthusiasm and credibility when working with volunteers, partners and stakeholders.
You don’t need to be an expert in everything — we value lived experience, local knowledge, and a willingness to learn.
Location
Trustees should live within 12 miles of Lichfield. Admin tasks can be carried out at home, but regular site visits and attendance at board meetings are expected to stay connected to our restoration work and meet other volunteers.
Onboarding process
Once we’ve received your application form, we’ll start with an informal chat to get to know each other and talk through the role. If appointed, there will be a six-month settling-in period with plenty of support as you find your feet and shape your contribution.
