Now the Big Pipe is ancient history (well, on this site anyway) things have really stepped up at Tamworth Road Narrows – literally!
The concrete base is long done, and the canal wall is shaping up beautifully. The bottom courses of blocks are in, with red and blue bricks now running along the top of the water level. Above that, the heritage red brickwork is starting to climb steadily, helping to hide the supporting wall behind it.
The team has been getting creative with site setups to stay safe and keep pace with the changing weather. Scaffolding is now in place, giving them a place to work with dry feet (the canal is retaining water nicely) as well as safe access to work at height. And when the sun’s blazing, they’ve rigged up clever shelters to stay cool and keep the work going.
It’s now a race against time to finish the wall before we move off site, ready for Amey to move in and build the new culvert under Cricket Lane.
