This old photograph shows Lock 17, probably just prior to closure of the canal in the late 1950s. Lock 16 can be seen in the background.
Ogley Third Flight Locks 17-13
The elevation changes over 6 locks by 50 feet in 500 yards. These locks remain in place but infilled and the land and side pounds are in private ownership.
Photo: Site of Locks 13 to 17.
Hand coloured photo from a J.Valentine postcard of 1905, taken between Wall Lane and Fosseway Lane looking down towards the side pounds and Locks 14-17. The signal box, catherdral and pumping station can be seen in the distance.
The boat is in Pound 14 but must have been added by an artist because it is a wide beam boat on a narrow canal. The railway opened in 1849.
