Leave a lasting legacy with a gift in your will

By leaving a gift in your will, you would be helping us to restore our canals and preserve their heritage, whilst also improving the environment for future generations and for wildlife. Your gift will therefore leave a lasting legacy.

Your loved ones come first, but when you make or update your will it’s easy to add LHCRT as a beneficiary.

You can choose to leave:

  • a specific sum of money, known as a pecuniary gift, or
  • a share of what’s left of your estate after your family, friends and other bequests have been taken care of, also known as a residuary gift. The advantage of a residuary gift is that it will not lose value over time.

You could also name a particular item in your will; for example, a boat or a piece of jewellery or even some land.

If you have already written your will, you can make a provision for a legacy to LHCRT by adding a codicil to your existing will.

Frequently asked questions

  • How will my gift be used?
If you choose to kindly leave a gift in your will to LHCRT, you can be sure that it will be received gratefully and spent wisely on restoration of our canals.
We are extremely thankful for all gifts in wills; those without restrictions are particularly vital as they enable us to act where most urgently needed.Your will is all about ensuring your wishes really count. If you have something very specific in mind, please do get in touch to talk it through before making your will.

  • Is there a minimum I can leave?
We’re very grateful for all gifts of any size.

  • Do you need to know that I’m leaving a gift in my will to LHCRT?
It would be helpful if you would let us know. Being aware of your kind intentions helps us communicate with you better and we would like to thank you for your generosity.

  • Can I talk to you about leaving a gift in my will?
Yes, we would be very happy to talk to you. If you have any questions or simply wish to chat in confidence about legacy giving, please get in touch.    ( Email our financial director )

  • Can you provide legal advice about the wording of my will?
We’re sorry but we can’t offer any legal or financial advice and we always strongly recommend you obtain your own independent professional advice. A will is a legal document, so it is best to let your legal adviser know exactly what you want and they will ensure that your wishes are clearly expressed.

  • I’d also like to request donations in lieu of flowers at my funeral, can I do this?
Of course. This can be arranged with the funeral director at the time. Family members can also set up an online dedication page on www.muchloved.com where donations can be made and details of the funeral service can be shared, along with precious memories.
